I started real work on the Calthus novel early this morning. By real work, I mean putting words on paper.
Yeah, I know. Outlines are real work. Daydreaming about plot twists is real work. Filling out the background story for minor characters is real work.
But for me, I don’t really feel like I’m writing a novel until I’m, uh, writing a novel. So it feels more real to me now, and I’m starting to get in that OCD zone where I keep thinking about it and have to grab paper and jot down sentences and notes so I can use them when writing time comes around.
It feels really, really good.

“But for me, I don’t really feel like I’m writing a novel until I’m, uh, writing a novel.”
I’m the same way. I’ve said (both publicly and privately) that I’m beginning work on my next book sometime near the end of January. I’ve been jotting down character info and plot ideas and I plan to do research and outlining off and on over the next six weeks, but I won’t feel like I’m really working on it until I start actually writing.
Nice to meet you, Kathleen. Good luck with your book.
Thanks. Same to you
I’m happy to report Calthus has taken over the Goble household. Steve is in full obsession mode.
I got to read the first few thousand words over the weekend and I’m willing to predict this thing’s going to ROCK.
Gere: Wanna write the blurb copy? Thank you, my muse.
Congrats, and keep at it. As you know I like starting stories but can’t seem to get past page 3. That’s why I mostly write flash I suppose, lol.
Have you made the map of the world visited by Calthus ?
Fabien: I’m not much of a cartographer. I scrawled some shoddy maps when I wrote the short stories, but I’ll likely need a couple of more extensive maps as I write the novel.
Ooo, maps to draw!
Hmmmmm …. there’s an idea!
This is hot news, Steve! Gere has me drooling already.
Glad you are interested in the book, vondarkmoor. I’m not sure how I feel about my wife making you drool, though …
